SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability Initiatives for THE PLAYERS 2023
THE PLAYERS is more committed to environmental sustainability than ever before in 2023. We are working with our partners, vendors, volunteers, and other important constituents to help us in these efforts and are also asking fans to play their part by carpooling, ridesharing, or biking to the tournament; bringing in an empty reusable water bottle; recycling when possible onsite; and to consider offsetting any travel associated with attending THE PLAYERS. Below you will find additional information on our sustainability focus.

ON-COURSE GREEN TEAM
Partnering with the UNF Environmental Leadership Program, a student led ‘’Green Team’ will be stationed across the course to help fans make the best decisions with their on-course waste.

REFILLABLE WATER STATIONS
Fans are encouraged to bring their own empty bottle that can be refilled at stations located around the course.

REUSABLE ALUMINUM CUPS
The iconic Sawgrass Splash has a new look this year and will be served in recyclable aluminum cups for the first time, ensuring they can be recycled locally.

DATA COLLECTION
Data on utilities, fuel, procurement, transportation, water, waste, and other metrics will be collected to create impact baseline.

TRANSPORTATION ACCESS
All fans are encouraged to carpool, rideshare, or ride a bike to THE PLAYERS, not only making your commute easier but also reducing carbon emissions.

BACK OF THE HOUSE MATERIALS MANAGEMENT
Behind the scenes we will be composting all food waste from our catering partners and sorting all fan recycling to ensure a clean recycling stream.
Electric Vehicle Sustainability
The hydrogen fuel cell generator eliminates carbon emissions for each individual use case one piece of equipment at a time with a commercial hydrogen fuel cell generator. This hydrogen-fueled electric generator is the latest in technology with integrated battery storage. 100kva output capacity, reduced noise pollution, zero NOX, zero particulate matter, 100% emissions-free, save 500 gallons of diesel fuel over the duration of the Players Tournament. This model is able to reduce not only carbon emissions but also noise pollution to comply with local noise ordinances. Traditional exhaust and related pollutants are replaced with clean air and water as the only exhaust from the fuel cell.
Additional PLAYERS Championship 2023 Sustainability Efforts:
- Tickets and pairings guides will all be published digitally as opposed to paper copies to reduce paper use and printing.
- Increased recycling signage and improved bins on course.
- Plastic film from packing will be collected and recycled in the Fan Shop.
- All players and caddies will be given a reusable water bottle and refill stations will be stationed around the course and player areas.
