Tuesday, March 8: Northeast Florida Women Veterans

In Northeast Florida – home to the third-largest population of women veterans in America – one organization is leading efforts to ensure that women who have served on active duty, National Guard or Reserves and their children and families transition into the civilian community with the tools they need to become self-sufficient.

That organization is Northeast Florida Women Veterans. Founded in 2012 by Retired U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Deloris “Dee” Quaranta, the organization works to ensure that each female veteran has a voice and excels beyond her expectations through programs and services including: a resource center to provide supportive and career services; community events to encourage women veterans to get involve and reintegrate into the community they live; and advocacy for the challenges and accomplishments of female veterans at the local, state and national level.

Wednesday, March 9: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind is a tuition-free state public school in historic St. Augustine, available to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind. The FSDB experience gives students the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more, fulfilling our vision of preparing them for a lifetime of success. Early intervention and outreach services are also available throughout the state of Florida. Private donations help to support programs that directly benefit students which are not covered by state funds. In 2021, THE PLAYERS gave FSDB a charitable contribution that was used to purchase sports equipment for the athletic department. Unfortunately, deaf, hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired children too frequently lack the opportunity to participate in structured athletics. FSDB provides this opportunity and allows its students to compete, interact with peers (both sensory impaired and non-sensory impaired), develop motor skills while building self-esteem.

Thursday, March 10: Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation

Serving as liaison between St. Vincent’s HealthCare and its most generous family of donors, the Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation provides funding for community healthcare outreach programs across Northeast Florida. These programs, including St. Vincent’s award-winning Mobile Health Outreach Ministry, serve children and families in our area who are struggling most by providing free healthcare, education and hope. The Ascension St. Vincent’s Foundation has partnered with THE PLAYERS since 1994, and in 2017 THE PLAYERS sponsored a new Mobile Health medical van.

Friday, March 11: First Tee

First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, First Tee creates active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. Celebrating their 25^th anniversary in 2022, First Tee has expanded to reach young people in all 50 states and select international locations, including 110,000 youth served locally through First Tee – North Florida.

Saturday, March 12: WeaveTales

WeaveTales is a local Jacksonville organization dedicated to amplifying refugee voices and creating more inclusive communities through the power of storytelling. Shining a light on the often unheard individual experiences of refugees, the organization and its founder, Basma Alawee – a refugee herself – collects, empowers and shares refugee stories to raise awareness of the ongoing crisis and help build bridges across cultural divides within communities. WeaveTales invites refugees of all kinds, from across the country and around the world to participate in their programs – helping them learn how to use their voice to share their stories in unexpected ways

Sunday, March 13: Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida

Whether young people dream of becoming a ballerina, an astronaut, or an all-star athlete, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida is helping them create their own great futures by providing a safe place where young people can reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. With more than 50 years serving the Northeast Florida community, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida has expanded to 38 Clubs, serving nearly 3,500 young people every weekday in Duval, St. Johns, and Alachua counties.
